Re: 27th brigade TST muster roll # 816

This is the only T. Shields I find in Texas Confederate rosters:

Thomas J. Shields, age 28, Private, Company D, 22nd Regiment Texas Infantry,* enlisted May 12, 1862 at Heomer, Texas by J. M. Jones for 3 years, last recorded present on the Jan./Feb., 1864 muster roll

Note: This was the last surviving muster roll for Company D. Thus, we cannot ascertain his subsequent service

* This company was known at various times as Captain Anderson's Company, Hubbard's Regiment Texas Infantry; Captain Anderson's Company Texas Volunteer Infantry: and Company D, 22nd Regiment Texas Infantry

Company D Muster roll for the period Jan./Feb., 1864 where they were stationed at the end of this period at Camp Rogers, La.

"Remained at Camp Rogers from 31st day of Dec. 1863 until the 20th day of Feby '64, then engaged in felling timber on Red River until 27th Feb and then returned to Camp Rogers & remaining there until 29th day of Feb 1864."
