You might want to check out the new book: "John P. Gatewood: Confederate Bushwhacker." It is written by Larry Stephens and published by Pelican Press. Like many former Confederates he fled to Mexico (believing that Gen. W. T. Sherman had put a bounty on his head), then moved to the Cleburne/Waco area. He eventually wound up on the Texas Ranger's "wanted" list. His brother was one of Texas' largest and most respected cattlemen, Its a great read.
