Re: Parson's 12th Texas Cavalry, Co K, Capt. Brown

James Petty Brown (Capt., Co. K, Parson's 12th Texas Cavalry) was the brother of my great-great grandmother Elizabeth Frances Brown Bryant. Their parents were Ervin Adam Brown and Matilda Burdette. He was born Mar. 25, 1829 in Jasper Co., GA and died on July 23, 1897 in Limestone Co., TX; he is buried at the Brown Family Cemetery (marked with historical marker) just north of Kosse in Limestone Co. His first wife was Mary Ann Bryant, believed to be the daughter of Harrison Bryant who married James's sister, Elizabeth Frances Brown. James Brown's second wife was Caroline Albina McKinley and his third wife was Credicus D. McKinley, sister of Caroline. He had 6 six children with his first wife (at least 5 of whom survived to adulthood) and two children with his third wife, both of whom died as very young children. James's unit was also known as the "Eutaw Blues", named for small settlement near Kosse.
