Captain William W. Phillips Company A 6th Texas In

Captain William W. Phillips was captured at Post Arkansas and died at Camp Chase as a prisoner of war. During the 1912 Memorial of the Confederate Dead in Columbus, Ohio a special wreath of flowers was laid. Here is the short story:

OLD LOVE NOT FORGOTTEN- Taken from the newspaper "The Ohio State Journal" dated June 2, 1912

"A wreath sent from Victoria, Texas will be placed upon the grave of Captain Phillips by two Texas women, members of the Robert E. Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy. The wreath was sent by a woman who is a member of the U.D.C. with the request that it adorn the grave of the love of my young life. The Captain was to be her husband had he lived."

The UDC chapter, Robert E. Lee was from Columbus, Ohio.

The tombstone #2102 shared with Capatin William W. Phillips at the Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery is ironically shared with Private Taylor Ellis who was a United States Soldier in the 6th Tennessee Cavalry. Taylor Ellis had been mistakenly identified as a Confederate Soldier and it would appear that as of yet today they share the same grave.
