A letter in his file of the 1st Special Battalion from the Adjutant General, War Department, to Mrs. J. W. Bates, 620 W. Walnut, Altus, Oklahoma, date September 18, 1834 contains the following:

"The Company [Company D, Shreveport Grays, 1 Special Battalion, Highter's, Louisiana Infantry] was disbanded September 5, 1862, but Captain Moor appears to have continued in service in various capacities, and on November 4, 1863, he was assigned by Brigadier General Henry MdCulloch to duty as Quartermaster of Townes' Brigade of Texas State Troops with rank of Captain.
"His name appears on a list dated February 13, 1865, of Quartermaster and Quartermaster Agents on duty in the Trans-Mississippi Department.
"No later record found."

DIED-At Blossom,Texas on the morning of May 22nd, 1916, Captain W E Moore.
He came to Shreveport about 1855 from Florida where he was born in 1836. When the war began he was with the commission and forwarding firm of Howell And Buckner. He volunteered with Shreveport's First Company,"The Grays," of the famed Dreux Battalion Of Louisiana. At the reorganization in April,'62,he was the unanimous choice of his company for its commander. He led his company in the campaign of '62, beginning with McClellan's advance on Yorktown and ending in Sharpsburg, Maryland,the hardest
all-day battle of the war. When the company was disbanded in October,'62,Captain Moore was sent to Texas, where he continued until the close of the war, in the subsistence department.
In 1866 he was married to Miss Lizzie Neal, of Lamar County,Tex.,who survives him with eight children, four sons and four daughters. He also leaves four sisters and a brother. He was a man prominent in his community and at one time was a member of the Texas Senate.
Captain Moore was a loving and devoted husband and father, a true friend and comrade, a gallant soldier of the "Lost Cause."

And he climbed the heights with Lee."
