H. Cleaveland, Private, Bastrop Cavalry Company, Capt. M. B. Highsmith, name appears on a list
" . . . of officers and men of the organization named above. Said company hold themselves subject to orders from the Executive of the State for State service, or anyhere the cavalry may be required on the border or in Missouri or Arkansas, to serve twelve months." [list] dated July 24, 1861 at Bastrop County, Texas with notation "Rifle," no other record

This company subsequently became Company D 12th Regiment Texas Cavalry, Parsons' Regiment Mounted Vols., 4th Texas Dragoons

Note: There are only two Company D muster rolls found in the Compiled service records, these are the

Company D muster in roll, dated October 28, 1861, for 12 months, taken at Camp Hebert near Hempstead, and

for the period Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 1863, dated Jan. 13, 1865, In the Field, no Record of Events

Inasmuch as Pvt. Cleaveland was not recorded on these rolls, my best guess is that he did not serve with the Company
