When Rufus Gleason died while serving in the Civil War, Mary Jane married Joe Devatus Belsen. He had married previously Orphelia Fuller and had 8 children. It seems he left wife and family and married Mary Jane Hanes Gleason in 1863. (There is proof of marriage; there is no proof of divorce.) Orphelia Fuller died two years later. Belsen left his second wife and child with her three other children destitute. They entered Grayson County Poor Farm. He then married Julia Wilkinson and had 8 children with her.

Belden came from ancestors in England who were decendants of Kings Edward I, II, and III
