Thanks, my first clue about where he was during his service. I had zilch.

William's brother was an agent for him in on the tax record in 1864. William was also shown on the Indigent Families List for the years 1863 and 1864.

What usually happened to a prisoner when he didn't take the oath?

How did the exchanges work?

Gano's Squadron and Watterhouse's Company are new bits of information I find confusing. When his Headstone was ordered in 1933, the man ordering it wrote Watterhouses Co., Lane's Regt. Is there a way to track each one of theses men in 1863 and 1864 to help find a possible connection?
