This man appears as James A. Hartt in the Fold3 database that comes from the National Archives Civil War records and his file consists of eight record cards. He enlisted on Dec. 23, 1861 at Henderson, TX by T. J. Johnson at age 25. The roll of Jul-Aug 1863 shows him absent on furlough and the next roll shows him absent sent to Hospital wounded at Chickamauga on Sep. 20, 1863. The next, and final, roll record is some time later, Apr. 5, 1864, and it lists him as absent “Wounded at Chickamauga Sept. 20, 1863 and sent to Hosp. by order of surgeon.” There is no indication in these records on how he was wounded, Since he was absent for over six months, the wound probably was severe.
