The 1st Regiment Cavalry, Texas State Troops, of which Captain J. H. Ewing commanded Company D, was a six month regiment organized in late 1863 and mustered out in early 1864.

There are no muster rolls for Company D found in the records. What record that exists for the company, is the Regimental Return of November, 1863. This is the only record found for the four officers of Company D and a few enlisted men that I looked up. This would explain why there are no records for the service of Aquilla Cunningham.
