The problem is that most of what you know is a lie. We were not rebels, we didn't rebel. We left the union as we had entered. Seems that should have been it. Lincoln then pushed the point until we had no choice but to open fire. I have two quotes from him where he said he started it. One in a round about way and another which said I gave you the war. So, We aren't rebels, there was 3 to 4 months before the shooting started so it wasn't us who was going against the Constitution. It wasn't even a Civil War. If you look it up, a Civil War is were two groups of citizens of the same country, fight for the control of the same government. I do remember we had a Constitution of our own and a government of our own. So for starters, You need to get an education and learn the real facts about the war. Oh, while I am at it.....there were about 350 K in the Union army that owned slaves, and in the Confederate Army 250 k who owned slaves. At the surrender the slave owner was in a blue coat. and he didn't free his slave until Dec. of 1865 with the passage of the 13th amendment.

So, now that I have given you a bit of the bigger picture, know this: the North can not free a slave unless it first takes a gun and forces the South back into the Union. If they fail in doing so, freeing the slave is mute. Now, your family was on the right side of the Constitution, so take pride in that.
