I just saw your post. I do not have my records in front of me. But I know for a fact that Speights brigade was in Louisiana in July 1863. I have a letter from my great great grandfather who wrote to his wife from “the camp of the Louisiana” near Baton Rouge then called “Vermilionville” in July 1863 just after the battle of Gettysburg. I recall that they had been sent to support the CSA in the battle of Vicksburg but Vicksburg fell before they got there. They were than redirected to go to the battle of Port Hudson.
