13th and 15th Texas Infantry

Hello,

I am working on a flag that was donated to the Tyler Texas UDC in 1937. It comes from a D.K. W. Lewter and it was stated that his Company was D, with his father, Jonathan, as captain. The flag was supposedly made by the ladies of Tyler, Texas.

The Soldiers & Sailors System shows both men, and two others who must be relations, as CO. I (Jonathan as a LT) and F (D.W.) of the 13th Texas Infantry. Both men, and two other Lewters, also show up in the 15th Texas Infantry, Co. D.

The history of Polignac's Brigade states (as do some other sources) that several companies of the 13th Texas became artillery and that some companies of the 15th did the same. To fill out the 15th, three infantry companies of the 13th were transferred to the 15th in April, 1862. The genesis unit for the 15th was the 1st Texas Battalion and it was three of their companies who transferred to the artillery.

From what I see I cannot find a Tyler, Texas connection with this flag. of course the 1937 newspaper article could be wrong on that but the flag is now owned by the Texas UDC at the Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth (White Settlement).

What I would like to know is did any companies of the 15th actually come from Tyler? The Polignac history says the 15th filled out on their march to Arkansas by picking up men from East Texas.

Any help is appreciated.
