Stanfer's Company, Unattached Cavalry

Has anyone seen any sources on the history of Stanfer's Company, unattached cavalry. The commander and some of his met were put on detached duty on April 4, 1865, the rest of his men were ordered to "...join some infantry or artillery company in this District as they may elect". I'm trying to find information on how large a unit this was and how man went to the detached duty.
