I do not believe either of these two served as Physicians during the war. Crumley’s wife’s Pension Application states his rank as “ 1st Ass’t Sergant” [sic]

The witness statement transcriptions in her application states these two men as 1st and 2nd Assistant Surgeons which I believe should be 1st and 2nd Assistant Sergeants respectively.

Hudson’s 1845 birthday would seen to indicate he being too young during the war to have gained a Medical degree.

The War Department’s reply to the Texas Pension Board state Crumley served in Company C, 2nd Texas Cavalry, which formerly served in the 13th Battalion Texas State Troops.

B. T. Crumley
Side: Confederate
Regiment State/Origin: Texas
Regiment: 2nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry State Troops (6 months, 1863-64)
Company: C
Rank In: Private
Rank Out: Second Lieutenant
Alternate Name: B. C. Crumby
M227 roll 8

Of interest, it’s possible one could consider a 2nd Sergeant as a First Assistant Sergeant. ???
