My GGG grandfather was in Whitfields legion out of Lavaca county Texas, He joined in Jan of 62 and died on April 20th of that year. It was said that it was a hospital ship on the Chesapeake where he died.
I have found no proof of such a ship. Were there wounded prisoners taken there after Elkhorn Tavern? His father in law was with him, and was discharged in Mississippi after his son in laws death because he was too old, and returned to Texas. I don't know if he fought at Corinth.
