In 1864 both sides often fought on foot behind newly erected breastworks. This was true in Virginia and during Shermans Georgia campaign.

My question is how did the confederate Texas cavalry fight during the entire war, but particularly in 1864? Was the texas cavalry mounted infantry? Was it dragoons? Or did it fight with sabers and pistols on horseback and sometimes on foot with rifles?
