Hi, I'm interested in information concerning connection & engagements of 3rd Arkansas Calvary Regiment, CSA, and its Company A's Captain Oliver Crosby GRAY (http://www.rootsweb.com/~arpulask/Col.MrsOCGray.html , with the 9th Texas Calvary, apparently lead by Col Wm Harrison (signature on GRAY's 7/17/64 resignation letter).

Oliver, a school teacher, graduated from Colby College, Waterville, ME, 1855, ended up in Princeton, AR 1860. He enlisted with Col Solon Borland, M D, 29 July 1861, rose from sargent to company commander by December 1862, resigned CSA Army, 19 August 1864, to join CSA Navy, was captured and imprisoned Nov 1864 (Ship Island, MS), exchanged March 1865, home, at Princeton, April 1865. He gathered their horses from Arkansas for remounting of unit prior to Holly Springs engagement of Dec 1862. action.

Wife's, Virginia Davis GRAY, 1863-65 diary published 1983 in Arkansas Historical Quarterly. His second wife was Senator Solon Borland's youngest daughter, Mary in 1889.
