17th Texas (Consolidated) Dismounted Cavalry

I am looking for information concerning 17th Texas (Consolidated) Dismounted Cavalry. This is the regiment that served in Louisiana, and participated at Mansfield, rather than the 17th Cavalry that was in the Army of the Tennessee. Are there any good website histories?

More particularly, there is a A.M. Short listed in Company B, who appears to be the same Alphonso M. Short who had been in Company D of the 24th Texas Cavalry. Is there a possibility this man missed the surrender at Arkansas Post (after its exchange, the 24th became part of the Texas brigade of Cleburne's Division), stayed in the Trans-Mississippi, and was assigned to the 17th Consolidated?

I am also curious as to whether a John H. Short also served in the 17th Texas (Consoldidated) Dismounted Cavalry, transferring from the 16th Texas Infantry.
