Re: 17th Texas (Consolidated) Dismounted Cavalry

Bret,

Are these soldiers family? If so there are more Short men in Company D 24th Texas Cavalry...more family?

I saw A. M. Short had a Texas pension #00313 from Bell County TX. and John H. Short had a pension #19118 from McLennan County TX.

Try to get a copy of Polignac's Texas Brigade by Alwyn Barr, you can buy it on line for around 15 dollars.

What I have read is that the men captured and then released at Arkansas Post went East to fight.

The men that escaped capture were consolidated and fought in the West. The best thing to do would be to get copies of the service records of these men to see if they were in battles in the East or were with Polinac in the West.

I hope this helps,
Gary D. Bray
