TEXANS in MS

I am seeking the service record of William Curtis Elam from Dallas, TX. Family history indicates he was placed into CSA service. However, the only reference found for an individual with such name is with Wirt Adams MS Cavalry. Coincidentally, his brother Benjamin appears to be in the same regiment/company. (I'm still not certain this is the correct pairing).

The Elams had been in Dallas since 1840, so I have difficulty accepting that they would travel to MS to enlist.

In researching Wirt Adams, I discovered that he had a personal link to the Texas Revolution. So is it possible that Texans travelled to MS to enlist with Wirt Adams MS Cavalry???

Can anyone offer any information??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Wes
