According to the records online at both sites ( Ancestry.com and the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System ) the info for my Alvis is as follows :
Civil War Service Records
Name: J. A. Alvis
Company: C
Unit: Giddings' Batt'n. Texas Cav.
Rank - Induction: Private
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Confederate
Notes: Alvis, James.

I have been told that the Giddings Battalion was one that had no records available ... or none kept , I'm not sure which. I am hoping that thru this site I can find knowledgeable people such as yourself that can assist / or direct me to locating further info on my J.A.Alvis ( full name should be James Anderson Alvis he was from VA b. approx. 1825 ) Thank you , all replies appreciated.
