Anderson Whetstone was my Great Grandfather, who trained the 10th Texas Cavalry, Co H, most of who were mustered in at Taos, Texas that was located in Navarro County Texas on the banks of the Trinity River. (There is no longer a trace of this town).
Trained at Camp Matthew F. Locke, Goose Lake Texas that was located 9 miles Northeast of present day Wills Point, Texas on State Highway 47. There is a Texas Histoical Commission Marker there. (UTM: 15226429E 3633528N for location). To obtrain information on Camp Locke from the Texas Historical Commission on Camp Locke refer to Marker Job # 26804.
Capt. Anderson Whetstone along with at least two other CSA Veterans are buried in un-marked graves in a private cemetery on private property in Van Zandt Count, Texas.
I have been albe to locate this cemetery and have gotten permission from the property owner to restore it. This is in the process of being done at this time.
I would appreciate any information that anyone has on Anderson Whetstone or his Father Peter Whetstone who gave propety from his Spanish Land Grant for the town of Marshall, Texas.
