Ms. O'Neal: This unit was basically in Georgia for nearly all of 63 & 64, except a short stint in Mississippi in early to mid 1863. During this time period they were in more than 30 battles and skirmishes, with most of these in Georgia, but the latter part of 1864 in Hood's disasterous Tennessee campaign. Their group was one of the selected brigades that allowed his army to cross the river to avoid being surrounded and overtaken by the union army after the battle of Nashville. My g-great grandfather and his older brother was in the 14th Tex. Cav.(dismounted).
