Re: Texans at Pleasant Hill Louisiana

Mr. McCue is correct. Evidence indicates that Hardeman's 4th Texas Cav, McNeill's 5th Texas Cav. and Terrell's 37th Texas Cav were on the extreme right flank of the Confederate line at Pleasant Hill. These cavalry units were immediately to the right of M. M. Parsons' Missouri infantry division protecting their flank. This protection dissolved when elements of A. J. Smith's army corps surprised the Confederate right flank and threw it into retreat. Purportedly Gen. Parsons was warned by elements of the cavalry. Parsons responded that he was following orders and intended to begin the assault at his current position.
