The book, This Band Of Heroes by James M. Mccaffery is an excellent book on the war. It has rosters of several different cavalry and infantry regiments. My ggreat grandfather, Leonidas L Mckinley (1829-1883) was in company D of the 17th, he lost a leg somewhere along the way. He was a teamster and enlisted at Larissa Texas. He received 1280 acres of land for his war sevice (Jack County) in 1882 and died shortly thereafter.
