Re: 22 Regiment Calvary Co. "H" Dragoons

Correction

I am trying to find out if this Calvary Regiment was originated in Texas or Alabama.

My grt grt grandfather Wm. Martin Smith b. 1824 joined the 22 Regiment Calvary Co. "H" Dragoons TX/AL? and in April 28, 1865 had signed a Prisoner of War Exchange document should the Garrison at Macon,GA fall.

He served in the Mexican Wars from 1845-1848 so I know he was in Texas at least up to the Confederate War start in abt. 1860/61.

I have read some stories of how Confederate Companies were combined to create new Regiments so I feel this is what happened to his original Regiment.

Any help is appreciated. I have already posted queries to the Macon,GA boards about this issue and they suggested I post to the TX and Alabama boards.

Thanks
