i am the great great grandson of 1st LT.JRK Brooks of the 19th texas infantry co.H ,i have found some information saying where he joined year etc. and that he came thru the ranks from 3LT to 1st and we have came across written papers where he was shown as commanding officer , i have also found information about the battles the company fought vicksburg , red river landing and also that he was taken prisoner at fort derussy around 1864 and rolls show he was held prisoner at new orleans until released as a prisoner exchange where he then returned with what was left of his men to the war , i also have the date in which it says he was paroled from service with honor , my question is how do i attain his official military record? or is this all that there is? i have been told most records were destroyed.
so for being long winded but i figured the more info i conveyed the more i might find the answer , if anyone has a picture of the 19th texas infantry i would love to have a copy .. thank you for any input.. KL Shaver
