Thomas Masoner, Co A, Scandlan's Squadron

Earl Pittman,

I find the statement "originally from Colorado, Masoner escaped from a Federal jail in Feb 1862" most interesting.

My records show that Thomas Masoner enlisted at Fort Arbuckle on Nov 18, 1861 in Company A (Scandlan's Squadron). ..How did he get to Colorado? ..I am confused.

Fort Belknap. What are your sources for members of Scandlan's Squad being at Fort Belknap, Young County TX in 1864?

If your "Thomas Masoner" is the Thomas Jefferson Masoner who m. Sarah McCracken, I have a rather extensive study of that family because:

1) they lived in now Purdy, Garvin County OK and I have made it my business to study many of those families (most early families were Choctaw) who lived along Rush Creek. ... My dad was a broomcorn farmer on Rush Creek, half way between Purdy and Antioch.

2) Mary Effie "Polly" Masoner m. Joe Ben Price, in-laws to my aunt, so this is a collaborating family of my Adkins family history.

3) Your Thomas Masoner is mentioned several times in my 4-page story about the 1868 raid by Kiowa Big Tree. McCracken is also mentioned several times in the Big Tree raid story. ..And yes, it contains the Collin's version.
