Re: Doctors Burk & Hamilton; N. TX cattle contract

Do you have Dr. Hamilton's first name? The reason I ask is that Jesse (K)nighten DuBose mentioned in your book had a brother, Doctor Amasa HAMILTON DuBose (MD) who had adjoing property in SW Hunt County before (and during) that time. In several documents, Jesse is referred to as "Knighten," "Nighten," and in one case, the "DuBose" was dropped from a document and he was "Jesse Knighten." Amasa and Jesse were both charged in 1861 in Hunt County..Jesse for murder, Amasa for assualt...but apparently neither came to trial. One family legend says that they, with their brother-in-law, were involved in some of the pre-war lynchings (Gainsville??) but I've found nothing, so far, to support that. I also have not found any record of military service by Amasa Hamilton DuBose who survived that violent era and died at a ripe old age around the turn of the 20th century(Jesse was killed in 1866).
