Re: Texas Confederate Indigent Families Index

Thanks William. I am looking for a Mary Jane Belden or Mary Belden from Grayson County who applied for the "assistance" provided by the state. I know her name appears on the list in the book. What I am missing is her spouse's name if the book shows that. I am trying to establish a link between her and a Rufus Gleason, who was supposedly her husband who enlisted in the Northeast Texas Sharpshooters Burnet's Batallion in August 1862 and died in Marksville, LA in early 1863. Mary Jane Gleason remarried after Rufus died, and applied for the indigent family benefits listing 4 dependents, but I can't positively establish Rufus Gleason was the veteran in whose name she applied. Do you know if the book lists the name of the soldier if a widow applied for benefits?
