Look like twins

No. 12 or 14. Jones Tidwell (1835 Dickson Co TN-1919 Erath Co TX, 22nd Cav-1st Indian-TX Regt.) ... Maybe No. 14 is Radford Tidwell (1832-1904 Hood Co TX, Patterson's Militia of Lamar Co TX Pct 6.) since No. 12 and 14 look like twins and Hood Co TX was nearby.

Quoting Christy Jolle, a Tidwell researcher:

" ... [We] have been studying the picture of the Erath County Civil War Veterans. I have two items that may be related; a very old, early photo of a man and wife that my grandfather told me were Tidwells. I believe the man is Jones Tidwell. The man in my picture resembles #12 or possibly #14 in your picture.

I also have a copy of a letter written by Colbert Tidwell (34th Texas Cavalry) while he was injured in a Confederate hospital in Mansfield, La. He is begging his father to come fetch him in a wagon so he can lie down. The oral tradition in my family is that he died within days of writing the letter but I cannot find any corroboration of that. Some internet sites show him dying in 1863 but the letter is clearly dated April of 1864. ..."

Quoting Nick:

Dallas Tidwell, b. 13 Jun 1845 in Dickson Co., TN) was indeed a "kid" of 18 in 1863 ... served in Captain John N. Daniels' Company A of Chaplin Good’s Regt, Wells’ Battn .... from 1863 - June, 1865 in Co. A, Good's Battalion, John Daniel's Company after enlisting in Lamar Co. TX. Tombstone had CW information on it. He (or his wife?) is on the Indigent Families in Lamar County, Texas list: "Tidwell, Dallas, 1 in the family, taken on 22 Feb 1865". His completed Confederate Pension Application
was approved in 1908.

*Colbert, b. 7 Oct 1833 in Dickson Co., TN, reportedly died shortly after April 27, 1864 in Mansfield, LA from injuries sustained in battle on April 8, 1864. I don't have a death record, but I have a copy of a letter he wrote from the hospital.

*Gideon, b. 3 Aug 1841 in Dickson Co., TN was a PVT Co. A 31st Infantry Reg. LA and I think must have died, no record found, appears on 1850 & 1860 census' & no later ones. I think he is the Gideon Tidwell who appears on a surrender record, Vicksburg, July 4, 1863.

"Jones" b. 14 Aug 1835 in Dickson Co., served in the 22nd TX Cav., according to the copy of a letter I have, he was also in Mansfield, LA as a "chief nurse" while his brother Colbert was there, returned to Erath Co., TX, died in 1919. Jones is a witness on Dallas Tidwell's Confederate Pension application.

*Radford, b. 6 Apr 1832 in Dickson Co., not sure of his service, died in Hood Co. in 1904.

Additional brothers:
*Benton (not on your list): b. 12 Aug 1843 in Dickson Co., served in the Alexander's 34th Cav. Regiment, TX, & returned to Lamar Co., not sure when he died, but he is on the 1880 census.

*Giles (not on your list): b. 8 Feb 1840 in Dickson Co. I think he served, I think he died, but I don't have any records. He was on an inital 1860 census list of potential Confederate soldiers from Lamar Co., never on another census after 1860. On the internet, I see some "G" Tidwells listed as serving, but they don't give the first name. *Dallas: you know his story!

Nick

...[P.S.] Dallas may have 6 Tidwell brothers who served instead of 4! Is there a record for brothers from one family serving in the Civil War from Texas?
