Enoch Joseph Downing Phelps

I am wanting to find more information concerning my Great-great grandfather, Enoch Joseph Downing Phelps of Newton County.

He is listed in Roster of Confederate Soldiers 1861-65 on page 306. Phelps, E.J.D. TX Arty. 4th Bn. Co. A.

In Confederate POWs Soldiers who died in federal prisons and hospitals in the North, I found the following listing: Phelps, E.D. Pvt. Co.D 17 Tex.Cav. DOD 2/2/1863 Confederate Mound Oak Woods Cem. Chicago
I have seen my great-great grandfather's date of death listed as 18 Feb 1863 on family history websites, but nothing "official". There is no pension application available.

How would you suggest I proceed to find any record of the circumstances of his death and final resting place?

Thank you for your help.
