Lt. Col. Dan Showalter's Regiment of the 4th Arizona Brigade stayed in South Texas with RIP Ford until they were ordered to Galveston or Houston (I've seen both listed) in February 1865. The Confederate leadership thought the Federals were planning an invasion of the upper Texas coast in 1865. Consequently, the Confederates moved a lot of forces to the Houston and Galveston area in the Winter and Spring of 1865 to defend against the possible Union invasion.

The Houston Tri-Weekly Telgraph newspaper has articles in May 1865 saying that Showalter's 4th Arizona was in Harrisburg (just east of Houston) with about 360 or 370 men. Showalter was there too. The Regiment held a meeting on May 16, 1865, and elected Showalter their "president." The results of the meeting were published under Showalter's name in the March 19th issue of the newspaper.

About a week later all the forces guarding Houston and Galviston dissolved, and the troops went home.
