Randy,
I just received the infomation on the widows penison for John A Thompson from the State Archives. From what I can peice together he was in Capt Holts Co. Borders Battilion, Anderson's Regiement. One of the witnesses states that he saw him guarding prisoners at Tyler. His death date is 23 July 1864 and it is stated he had been sent home sick, so having an approved pension I believe he left Camp Ford before the mass desertion,although that would be the command he was in. If I can find a scanner that will do legal size I will forward the paperwork to you.
