Re: TW Smith -10th Texas Calvalry, Co. D 1861-1865

Mr. Coffee,
My ggg-grandpa was James A. Boyd who served in the 10th Texas Calvalry, Co.A. The last muster roll card on him is dated Apr./1864. I believe he was killed in the war but can't find any specific information on who from the 10th Texas Calvalry didn't make it back home. In this posting you state that less than 150 of the 900 original recruits returned home. Is there a list or death register of specific soldiers who did or did not survive? How long did a widow wait for her husband to return before he was declared dead? Was there some sort of legal process involved so they could remarry?
