I cannot find the Coleman of the "Coleman's Battalion" mentioned in the entry referenced below:

Coleman's Battalion of Oct-Nov 1863. ..I am referring to the "Haley, W.H.; Co D; Coleman's Battalion; Brush Battalion" entry. ..I have refined most of the entries to reflect CSA regiments that can readily be found ... and are familiar to most students of the Civil war era regiments in Texas.

David Coleman? ...I assume "Coleman's Battalion" refers to the "Colonel David Coleman" who accepted the command of the Ector's command (29th and 39th North Carolina Infantry) toward the end of the War, but I can find nothing else on this "Col. David Coleman." ..Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

This "David Coleman" doesn't seem to be obvious in other Texas records, although I do no have access to the 1850 Texas census.

I think this "W.H. Haley" was from the Van Zandt County area. ..And yes, several others in the Brush Battalion were from Van Zandt County.

From Sept. 1863 they remained in Mississippi until May 1864, when Polk's Corps joined Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's defense of Atlanta. At that time, Gen. Ector's brigade included the 29th and 39th NC Infantry Regts, and 4 Texas regimets, the 9th, 10th, 14th, and 32nd, of which the last 3 were discribed as dismounted cavalry.
