My great-uncle Hugo H. Raven was in Co. C, 21st Texas Cavalry Regiment (Parson's Brigade, Army of the Trans-Mississippi) from it's inception in 1862 until the end of the war. It was a colorful unit, serving in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and raiding up into Missouri. When the war ended, they didn't surrender to the Union troops and take the oath, turn in their weapons and horses. They just rode back home to Texas as a unit and disbanded as many Texas units did.
