William Atkinson, Ochiltree's 18th Texas Infan

.
In Company D of Ochiltree's 18th Texas Infantry, there was a "William Atkinson" and a "William N. Atkinson." Chances are good that his middle initial was an "N."

Commissioned officers in 1862 Marion County, Texas

Briggs, R.W.................1st Lt
Atkinson, Wm................2d Lt
McCain, George ............Jr 2d Lt
.
Curiously, in the 1860 Marion Co TX cen, one Alex Atkinson, b-1839 KY, lived in the McCain household with Robert McCain who was in Ochiltree's 18th Texas Infantry. This Robert McCain may be the same gent as George McCain (maybe Robert George McCain) -- wouldn't be the first to be surprised that the military insists on using the first name.
.
Tracking an ancestor who made his living on a ship is very difficult. Thank heavens most were farmers who stayed put.
