From Cozzen's Darkest Days of the War, Iuka and Corinth, Moores Division and the 1st Texas Legion (27th Texas Cavalry Regiment) were in the lead and well across the bridge. Moore's Division included the 42nd Alabama, 15th Arkansas, 13th Arkansas, 35th Mississippi and the 2nd Texas. These units had been heavily engaged at Corinth, so were down in strength. Next at the bridge was Stirman's Sharpshooter Regiment. My GGF was a private in I , 6th Texas which was attached to Stirman's Regiment. His arm was broken and he was captured in the vicinity of the bridge. Moore's Division and the 27th Texas Cavalry were schattered and were retreating in a disorganized mannor. Many jumped into the river and swam for their lifes, drowned, or were captured. Most of the wounded and dead were left and captured. The captured were paroled from Iuka a few weeks later. By reason, some of the 2nd must have been captured, wounded. Ross at the bridge sent the sharpshooters back across the bridge to provide covering fire and fought a rear guard with the 6th texas Cavalry. Reinforced by Cabel's brigade, the rest off Phifer's brigade and artillery, they then malled three US regiments. Must have been a mess, for Ord to resolve and definately slowed any persuite.
I would guess a number of 2nd people were captured. But a number also escaped as the unit was in the retreating force the next day.
