Union and Confederate soldiers battle it out at Dallas Heritage Village on Veteran’s Day weekend by Dallas Heritage Village, Oct 23, 2007

DALLAS -- November 1861…Eight months of fighting the War Between the States…Three months of a military blockade at the Texas coast…Confederate soldiers arrive in Dallas looking for new recruits, while Union sympathizers hold secret meetings to aid one Union military unit attempting to pass through the city unnoticed. Confederate and Union soldiers meet at Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park on November 10 and 11 ready for battle during Civil War on the Home Front.

For Veteran’s Day weekend, Dallas Heritage Village welcomes Civil War re-enactors from 9th Texas Infantry, Mississippi Valley Brigade, Navarro Rifles/2nd Texas Partisan Rangers, 7th Texas Cavalry, 1st US Infantry and Texas Civilian Corps. Troops reenact moments from one of the most volatile times in our country’s history.

Civil War on the Home Front provides families with a one-of-a-kind history lesson on November 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and November 11, Noon to 4 p.m., with skirmishes scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Union and Confederate troops set up camp at the Village for the weekend. Visitors will witness drills, see a battle reenactment and hear tales of the war. Don’t be surprised if you’re asked to join the cause! Soldiers will demonstrate black powder weapons during Saturday and Sunday’s skirmishes.

Admission and Parking

Dallas Heritage Village is located at 1515 South Harwood, just one block south of Farmers Market. Admission to Civil War on the Home Front is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors 65+ and $6 for children ages 4-12. Children under 4, members of Dallas Heritage Village and military personnel with valid military ID are admitted free of charge. Free parking is available at the Village. About Dallas Heritage Village

Dallas Heritage Village, located at Old City Park, is a nationally accredited history museum, depicting life in Dallas from 1840-1910. The grounds showcase 38 historic structures, including log cabins, the pre-Civil War Millermore home, a Victorian Main Street, a railroad complex, an 1861 farmstead with livestock, a 19th century church, school and more. The Village highlights historical themes brought to life by first-person characters dressed in period clothing. Now through November 2007 and February 16 to June 14, 2008, the influence of the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago on Dallas and Texas residents is being explored. The fall and spring is filled with special exhibits and programming including lectures, demonstrations and special events. Costumed characters will discuss the excitement, pride, fear and realities of Dallas residents during 1893.

Admission during the summer and winter months (June 15 to September 14 and January 2 to February 15) is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors 65+ and $3 for children ages 4-12.
