Re: Singletary in Montague County militia

Evan was born 1812 in Bladen Co., NC; d. abt 1892 in Montague Co., TX; place of burial is unk, however a few years ago permission was granted to place a stone for him in the Head of Elm Cem in Saint Jo, Montague co., TX. At the same time a stone was placed for my g/grandfather Marcus Manning Landers (I believe we have already discussed him), Marcus was Evan's son in law. Both had lived in Saint Jo & Marcus was supposedly burried out on the prarie near Saint Jo, the body was never found. So neither are in the Head of Elm Cem, just a stone. Evan's has a Texas Ranger emblem but according to records he was actually a Texas State Troop. Pay voucher shows him as 6th Corp, enlisted Frontier Dist Montague Co., TX TST 23 Feb 1964 at Montague. What info do you have that shows him as a SGT?
Evan 1st married 28 Feb 1829 in Robeson Co., NC to Ruth Howell. They had 4 children. Evan married 2nd abt 1839 in AL to Martha Andora Dorsey, they had 9 children, number 5 of this nine was Andora, my g/grandmother who married Marcus Manning Landers. Evan & Martha brought their family from AL to Milam Co., TX in 1850 & by the 1860 census they were in Montague Co., TX.
I would be interested in any info you have for Evan or Marcus.
