Re: Stevens; McCord's 46th Frontier Cav

Patti,

Thank you very much for your help. George W. Stevens was born in Lowndes County, Alabama, July 12, 1831. The information I gave above is the only Civil War information I have.
He married Martha Ann McDondald in about 1850 in Arkansas, and appears she died between 1858-1860. I believe they had 4 children and I have there names.
He married my 3rd great grandmother, Nancy M. Buchanan, in Wise County, Texas, about 1859. They had 8 children, including my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Catherine Stevens Shortes.
He lived in Wise County, Texas, until his death on April 11, 1893, where he is buried in Flat Rock Cemetery. He was an honored Texas Ranger, and served as sheriff of Wise County. A short biography of him goes as follows:
Capt. George Stevens (July 12, 1831 – Apr 11, 1893) Born in Alabama. Came to Wise County in 1855. Well known as champion of the defenseless. Active in resesting Indian attacks on pioneers. Member and guiding officer in numerous home guard units. Served as sheriff in 1860’s, 1870’s.
