Russell..You should go visit the place if you havnt been before.The fort is in the river now but some of the trenches are still barely there back in the woods.Seems like the 18th Texas cavalry flag is in the museum? Then go on up to Helena and see General Cleburne.

My GGgf with Johnson's Spies was captured at the Post.He was sent to that Rat Hole in Chicago where he caught a fever that killed him about 9 mos later.Soo Ive never had any high regard for that city.

That battle at the Post was just such a tragic debacle.Most likely the federal navy's big guns were decisive.Even tho most of the troops were badly armed and had not seen any serious combat,they did check the federal infantry.But with those big shells screeching in and nothing to do about it after the fort went under,obviously some unit panicked and the mysterious white flags.It is probable Churchill would have cleared out later that night.Certainly they could not have continued to hold the place with the navy there...An interesting battle.
