Re: Loyalty Oaths
In Response To: Loyalty Oaths ()

I want to thank you all for the great responce to my question. I had never given the loyalty oaths much thought before now. Obviously they were viewed as very importaint after the war. I have never found a record of my GreatGrandfather, Pvt.Roland L. Wallace, 23rd Texas Cavalry, having signed one. He moved to Claiborne Parish La. from Rusk Co. Tx. in 1870 and married the sister of Thomas J. Wallaces' wife and lived on their father-in-laws 800+ acre farm. That might be the reason he never signed one. Wallaces Bend on the Red River may have somthing to do with my family as my Wallace family along with the Cornelius family moved to Red River Co. in 1838 and married into the Robert Dyer family already settled on the river at that time.
