My great, great grandfather, James W. Bankston served in MS during the Civil War. James W. Bankston was born in GA about 1830. I believe he served out of Smith County, MS.He moved with his family to Arkansas about 1880 and I believe they lived in Louisiana at some point in time before 1890. They ended up in Fannin County, Texas where he died in 1903. What I would like to know: If a man served in MS and died in TX, where would he have applied for a Civil War pension? If it was in TX, did they start Confederate pensions before 1903? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
