17 tx cav was dismounted in july 62 after ark battle of cache river.half were captured at arkansas post battle 1/11/64.escapees, the sick woundes and furlowed formed
the nuclous of the 17 tx cav dismounted consolidated.it
was given the uncaptured elements of several regiments
from ark post battle.captured men went to camp douglas
(enlisted)champ chase(officers).these men were exchanged
in may 63.were sent to the army of tennessee and
were called the 17th and 18th dismounted cav.
