Same person?

I believe my ggrandfather was Col. Samuel D. Lowe. I'm trying to confirm that he had a son named Francis Davidson Lowe (my grandfather). We believe the Colonel's wife was the former Carrie E. Houston, and that she is my ggrandmother. My father (Frank B. Lowe)was born and raised in Buena Vista, VA. Since your information says that's where the Colonel died, and the years seem right, it seems to confirm what we believe, that he was my ggrandfather. Any information you might have on the Colonel's children would be a great help. Thanks

also have a little new info on Samuel D. Lowe. He died 5-30-1891 at Buena Vista, Rockbridge County, VA. Two renowned authors on Confederate generals and colonels are currently researching where he was buried. The Confederate veteran Samuel Lowe buried at Chattanooga in Forest Hills Cemetery has been ruled out as a possibility.

I have Been working on the Lowe family tree for some time now. I have quite a few names, about 40 pages, and would like to share them with you. I am not a wiz with the computer and would like to send the package to you via mail at my cost. All I ask is for you to review and update my list with your information about our family for my records. this would truly be appreciated.

Hayes Lowe had written:
That would be Col. Samuel D. Lowe. His father was John Washington Lowe, and his grandfather was Thomas Low (d. 1829). The Colonel had a brother William. They were residents of Lincoln County, North Carolina.

From the Sherrill Family Book:
Samuel D. Lowe entered the Confederate Army as a Lieutenant, August 15, 1861, was a gallant soldier, rapidly promoted in turn to the rank of Captain, Major, Lieutenant-Colonel, until November 1, 1862, when he was commissioned Colonel. He was wounded at Gettysburg July 3, 1863. He was a merchant at Iron Station, 1870-1873; later moved to another state.

There is a photograph of Samuel on his horse (he was in a mounted infantry troop at the time) at the American Legion Building in Lincolnton, Lincoln Co., N.C.

Hayes Lowe also wrote:
Col. Samuel D. Lowe was not the son of James Washington Lowe, he was instead the son of Col. David Alexander "Alec" Lowe. Col. Alec was the son of Isaac Lowe (brother of James Washington Lowe).

I don't know for sure, yet, but I suspect that Col. Alec Lowe wasl in the Mexican-American War of 1842.
