The name of the cutter was the Henry Dodge. Capt William J [or possibly F] Rogers was in command of a 12 man crew in Galveston. They received orders to take the ship out of Texas and Rogers cooperated with local authorities in Feb 1861 to instead orchestrate a seizure of the vessel which formally took place on March 2, 1861. The crew was taken into State service and the officers received corresponding appointments. Accounts of this action, which include an inventory of the vessel, are contained in the Journal of the Secession Convention of Texas (1861)
