I have an order from the National Archives for James Curtis Cady's Civil War Records records.

The 1890 Veterans Census for Alamogardo, NM, shows JCC listed Company K 17th Infantry, but as I am sure most of you have have read this far, the 17th and 18th were formed as Calvary and Dismounted. This unit was consolidated from time to time with other Dismounted Calvary and Infantry units. Some books list the 17th under other units, as 17th Texas Mounted Rifles.

JCC was with the 1st Texas Mounted Rifles from Apr.1861 to April 1862 and joined the 17th when that unit disbanded.

Unit battles were Arkansas Post (Fort Hingman), Chickamauga,
Tunnel Hall,TN, Ringgold Gap. They lost their Regm't Colors at Atlanta where over half were captured or killed. The remaining members fought at Franklin, Nashville and Jonesboro. Company K was the tenth company which might have put them on the Regm't far left.
